Not a Pixel Pusher.
I've been calling myself a "web architect" because I like the implication of form AND function. Architects are hired to create visually appealing structures that also have to WORK. Can't have floors collapsing and HVAC that doesn't heat or cool.
The web is the same way. It's GOT to look good, but it's GOT to work right, too. And not just for the end user, but the editorial or administrative staff.
Coining a Term: SEX-C
I'd love it if I were to start seeing this appear in other places: SEX-C = Semantic Extensible XHTML and CSS. Let this be my testament; it's a huge part of what I do.
Soul Brain
I still believe in the designer's brain and soul, and not necessarily the designer's digital prowess. Although I began as a geek, and I have accepted that this industry is driven by computers, I have also realized that design is so much more. Design is the tingle you get from the concept; design is the look of amazement on a client's face when you give them more than they expected. In this industry, now, designers are not just those that can put a pretty face on a piece of paper; they have to be sellers and marketers, advertisers and communicators.
